MORE ABOUT WOKA
Ambience and Atmosphere is created by different levels of lighting.
Brightness and Darkness. The play of Daylight and Night - shapes through shadows and plains.
It is WOKA to define a contrast in manufacturing ultimate elegance and everlasting style.
WOKA stands for timeless design in lighting.
Authentic reproducer of classical lighting icons from the Wiener Werkstätte, French Art Deco and German Bauhaus, WOKA recently focuses on developing new lights as a parallel line - overviewed by the manufacturer‘s creative director in sense of style and cosmopolitan spirit.
Reinvention and constant development also regarding new lighting media make the difference to other historical manufacturing companies.
Design as such plays the major role:
strong appearance through material and a sensibility in interpretation.
With each design‘s history the reproductions strongly refer to the past - as a collection the lights are unmistakeably modern and timeless.
A short review:
Thanks to the Wiener Werkstätte in the beginning of the 20th century,
Vienna enjoyed worldwide recognition; a lot of artists became noticed in this creative and productive period. Finest quality, functionality, a simple language in shape were decisive components for their inventions. Still today they influence our perception and understanding in design and arts.
The architects and artists, aming for the same ideals, inspired each other and questioned former restrictions. Many of them such as Josef Hoffmann and Kolo Moser,
as well as their competitor Adolf Loos are well known today; they are masters of an epoch, that opened the doors to a new world of design.
It is WOKA‘s goal to maintain these treasures of history beeing still available - yet adapted to today‘s standards of contemporary product quality. Since several decades the company reproduces decorative lightings, that represent the simple beauty and elegance of that period.
Each single one of them gets manufactured by hand in Vienna. Partly old machines and molds from the Wiener Werkstätte, that survived modernisation are still part of the production.
The lamps are made from brass as a base component. It can be varnished or laquered, as were most of the original drafts;
today a nickel plated surface is also very popular. Opaline glass or a silk shade, both from finest quality, complete each creation as a unique master piece. Each light leaves the company with a certificate of origin and quality.
Interior architects and designers appreciate to be able to meet and collaborate with WOKA on individual and customized projects.
