×The great Swiss architect Le Corbusier famously said that ‘a house is a machine for living in.’ In 1934, he tested out his hypothesis by moving into the top floor of a building he had designed at 24 Rue Nungesser et Coli in Paris. The apartment embodies many of his radical ideas about residential architecture, including the innovative use of pivot doors.
Le Corbusier favoured open floor plans that allow people to ‘promenade’ through the house. In the Paris apartment, a series of oversized pivot doors separate the main living areas from a studio he used for painting, dissolving the threshold between the public and private zones when the doors are open. Sky-Frame followed the same principle when developing its Pivot door system, which swings open with a gentle push to instantly connect inside space with the outdoors.
The Pivot door forms a minimal threshold between inside and outside, pivoting around an asymmetric axis to create a temporary spatial structure

×Sky-Frame’s catalogue focuses on a limited number of highly refined products, and its Pivot system is ideal for architects seeking a minimal, modern doorway solution. The glass-panelled door is set within a slender frame in order to provide an uninterrupted view. A push on the handle causes the door to glide open around its asymmetrically located axis. It brings theatre to an everyday action, and creates a statement feature wherever it is used.
Sky-Frame Pivot can be specified for a main entrance, or as a way to connect a property’s internal and external living areas. The large opening allows fresh air and all the sounds and smells of the surroundings to flood in, functioning in a similar way to Sky-Frame’s sliding door solutions. A multipoint locking system guarantees safety and security, while the optional electromechanical lock ensures additional ease of use. This modern take on the pivot door combines Le Corbusier’s ideas about the fluidity of space with 21st-century technologies, creating a grand entrance with an almost invisible structure.
