Concept
I designed the Laba Laba collection mainly because I wanted to design something new and because I wanted to create furniture for the private home and not only for offices. Being a designer with own production and sales sadly means that designing new products is more or less 1% of your work.
The Laba Laba is suitable for storage at the office, reception, meeting rooms or in the private work room, hallway, living room or dining room. And the coffee table is suitable for – having a cup of coffee and simply to look good.
In 2011 I visited our new factory in Indonesia and at the same time I did finish my sketches and handed them over to our engineer to finish the technical drawings. Since I only draw my creations with a pen and a piece of paper the drawings where far away from finished.
A few month after I returned to Indonesia to follow the progress of the prototypes. When walking around the production floor I heard all the carpenters say the word Laba Laba and I asked our American Managing Director what the word “Laba Laba” means. He replied that since I haven’t given the new products a name all the workers had agreed to name it “Laba Laba” which in English is the same as “Spider”. So I decided “Laba Laba” should be the name for this collection.
Execution
This collection consists of a body MDF matt white, stainless steel and legs of MANGO wood. The stainless parts allow you to adjust the height of the units. To save space in transport these furniture are not assembled but comes with an easy to understand and detailed compilation instructions.
