Profile
The 25portraits book and documentary project was initiated by Katharina Zettl and Uwe Roettgen to discover more about the Japanese culture of arts and crafts, and to share their findings. Both of them deeply admire Japan for its culture, people, food, architecture, nature and especially its unequalled arts and crafts.
Until May 2017, for six months, they have travelled 9,500 km from Oita up to Aomori by camper van. 25 craftsmen from all fields of Japanese arts and crafts, their marvellous workshops, materials, production processes and products have been portrayed by them in numerous pictures and interviews.
Katharina Zettl is a self-employed book and graphic designer. Uwe Roettgen is a currently employed Design Director specialized in signage and way-finding projects. Both are passionate photographers and have travelled Japan various times.
