DALD - David Atkinson Lighting Design

David Atkinson is the creative director of DALD. His projects have included heritage sites, interactive museums, retail, hotels and contemporary architectural lighting designs.

David Atkinson studied at the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art with an emphasis on lighting for theatrical productions. After spending several years in theatre, music, fashion and television he is established as an independent designer with an emphasis on architectural lighting.
He is an associate member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and the Professional Lighting Designers’ Association (PLDA).

His projects include the lighting design for Roman Amphitheatre ruins at the Guildhall (London), St. Michael’s caves in Gibraltar, interactive visitor centre for Famous Grouse Whisky (Scotland) as well as the external lighting of the Royal Albert Hall for the 007 Launch of "Die Another Day".

David also designed the lighting for the National Waterfront Museum Swansea, Edinburgh Castle, Cardiff Castle as well as some major exhibitions in the Middle East. One of these – the Lost Worlds Exhibition in Qatar, ran from November until December 2004 with over 114,000 people visiting it.

David has been awarded Lighting Designer of the Year 2011.

DALD’s latest projects include the development of a lighting design strategy for a series of Spas throughout the UK; a new lighting scheme for the main reception, valuation rooms and VIP galleries of Christie’s in London, Paris and New York; the; The British Music Experience at ‘The O2’; ‘Postmodernism: Style and Subversion 1970-1990 ‘ at the V&A; Sky Gallery & Backstage lounge at the 02 and Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi.

Awards have included 2007 Middle East Lighting Design Awards and 2010 & 2011 Lighting Design Awards.
