Focus Lighting

Paul Gregory is the founder and president of Focus Lighting, an award-winning 20-person architectural lighting design firm based in New York City. He has spent the last eighteen years revealing and highlighting architecture by “painting pictures with light.” He has received numerous awards recognizing his design work, including multiple Lumen Awards as well as the IALD, Waterbury, ASID Awards, and Lighting Dimensions International's "Lighting Designer of the Year" Award. Most recently Paul was inducted into Architectural Lighting Magazine’s Hall of Fame.

Paul’s designs reflect the belief that a sense of drama and theatre is inherent in successful architectural projects. A primary goal is to ensure that when a patron enters a showroom, hotel, or restaurant, or when a passer by first looks at a lit façade at night, the initial impact is as stunning and memorable as the moment the curtain rises on a Broadway stage.

Focus Lighting provides an array of services from conceptual design and schematic mockups to construction documents, programming and pro-active coordination throughout the construction process. Its team of designers stays on top of the latest trends, materials and technology to support the vision of architects who seek to make their mark on the world of design.

Paul Gregory and his team have worked with world-renowned architects on projects throughout the United States, South America, Europe and the Middle East. Among the best proofs of his talent: the Toys ‘R’ Us Flagship store in Times Square and the Tribeca Grand Hotel and the Chambers Hotel (each in NYC); the Mohegan Sun Casino, Phase 1 (Connecticut), the Entel Tower (the tallest building in Santiago, Chile) and Le Cirque Restaurant (NYC). Other projects include Morimoto Restaurant (Philadelphia); No-Bu, Vong, & Michael Jordan’s Restaurants (NYC); the Dan Hotel in Elat Israel; Armani, Ultimo, H&M retail stores, and Knoll International (NYC). Many of these projects have been featured in a number of magazines, including Architectural Record, Archi-Tech, Frame, Lighting Dimensions, New York Magazine and the New York Times.

Paul was trained in theatrical lighting at the Goodman Theatre School of the Art Institute of Chicago and in Architectural Lighting Design at the Parsons School of Design in New York City. He spent a number of years designing lights for regional theatres such as the Alley Theatre, StageWest, and the Goodman Theatre. In 1975, he founded and headed Litelab Corporation, where he was responsible for major design projects in museums, restaurants, theatres, and entertainment facilities. Paul has been an Illuminating Engineering Society member since 1982.
