PROFILE
Francesco Pierazzi Architects is an emerging, design-led architectural practice set up in London in 2009. The practice has a well established experience in a wide range of sectors and scales, both in the United Kingdom and abroad, from small extensions to substantial interior refurbishment and re-modelling, including retail and furniture design. Francesco Pierazzi Architects regularly take part in international design competitions.
Each of our projects tells a story and so we organize the composition of every design in such a way as to tell that story, through the organization of space, the modulation of light or the interpretation of the materials we employ. The narrative draws encouragement from the client’s brief. The location in which the projects are to be set also generates inspirational moves. We have cultivated a particular interest in understanding the relationship between architecture and other disciplines and how one - architecture - can be manipulated and influenced by the others. Art and literature have imbued most of our projects. The challenge is to transfer these forms of inspiration into the setting of the clients’ briefs. It is the consistent approach in resolving our clients‘ ambitions and the complexity or simplicity of their brief, that has become the starting point of an ongoing research into the rituals of the inhabitation of domestic and urban spaces.
A sense of movement, rotation and dynamism is often found in most of our projects, being they public, commercial, residential, follies or temporary structures. We strongly believe that a space with dynamic qualities can enhance people‘s spirit and contribute to engage with the space that they use.
BIOGRAPHY
Francesco Pierazzi trained in his hometown of Florence and graduated under Professor Alberto Breschi with a thesis in Museum Design and Museography. He apprenticed in Germany with Gerhard Aeckerle und Partners, working on the Parkhotel and Conference Center project in Pforzheim, before returning to Italy to practice architecture.
During his time in Italy he worked on various projects, from retail outlets to mixed used schemes and domestic projects. He taught Urban Design and Museography at the Faculty of Architecture in Florence, and Interior Design at the Art School Florence.
Francesco Pierazzi relocated to London to join the well established practice Charles Barclay Architects in 2002. He worked on high end domestic projects throughout London and played a significant role in many design international competitions - including the RIBA award winning Kielder Observatory in Northumberland. He also worked at Brady Mallalieu Architects and Charles Tashima Architecture.
He established Francesco Pierazzi Architects in London in 2009, with early commissions including a variety of domestic projects both in London and abroad.
