Profile
Born in Lisbon in 1955, Frederico Valsassina graduated in Architecture from Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa in July 1979 and set up his own studio in 1986.
He received the Honourable Mention of the Valmor Prize in 2003 for the Alcântara Rio Project, and the Valmor Prize in 2004 for the Art’s Business Center Project in Parque das Nações.
Valsassina holds the position of Guest Professor at the Faculty of Architecture at UTL teaching the master’s degree in Real Estate Development. Taught Conception of Residential Spaces. He has also been asked to present his work in various international universities, conferences and other events linked to architecture.
In 2007 he received the National INH/IHRU Award and was represented at the Lisbon Triennal. He was invited by Secil and the Architects’ Association to chair the jury of the Secil Portugal 2006/08. In 2008 his project for the new R.T.P./R.D.P. studios was selected for the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona and in 2009 his work on S.Tomas School received a distinction at the same Festival. He took part in the public tender for the new Law Courts in Porto and was pre-selected for the IV Architecture Award of Ascensores ENOR. He was a guest member of the jury for the International Architecture Competition taking place at the University of Campinas – Brazil.
In 2010 he held an exhibition of his works at the invitation of the Middle Tagus Nucleus of the Architects’ Association in Casa dos Cubos in Tomar. He was also invited by the Polish Government to take part in the international public architecture tender to produce the Museum of World War II in Gdansk.
He completed work on the Contemporany Art Museum of Companhia de Seguros Lusitânia in Lisbon and also took part in the Architecture International Congress at Porto (AICO).
In 2011 he finished the head office of Unico Banco in Mozambique. In partnership with Ricardo Bak Gordon and João Ferreira Nunes he produced a study for the Maputo waterfront and the study for tower blocks in Accra, in Ghana. He completed the house on Avenida da Boavista in Porto and also the Project for the Alcântara Waste Water Treatment Plant.
