We are a Danish design studio based in Copenhagen, founded and creative directed by Johannes Torpe.
Established on principles of playfulness, collaboration, open-mindedness and a desire to surprise and be surprised, we have helped companies of all shapes and sizes tell their brand story through strong spatial interpretations of their identity since 1997.
With a founder who has never undertaken any formal education and has worked across a multitude of creative industries, the studio is an advocate for an unrestrained and fearless approach to design. The studio has been called unconventional on more than one occasion and wears this with pride.

Johannes Torpe
Founder and visionary Johannes Torpe is an unconventional and self-trained creative in every way imaginable. Working in the fields of interior, product, lighting and graphic design, while also producing music and playing the drums, he is not one to conform to established boundaries. He simply calls himself a design activist, dedicated to telling compelling and authentic stories through creativity and design.
As creative director of the studio, he infuses the team with his energy, intuitive approach and comprehensive experience from the many aspects of the design and creative industries he has worked in. He channels his unorthodox approach into building the best team in his studio and creating an environment where the
designers and projects can grow to reach their full potential.
Johannes Torpe additionally conducts creative consultancy work for brands. Most recently he was named Group Creative Director of Bang & Olufsen, injecting new energy into the legendary brand, channeling his own passions for music, storytelling and brand-building. Johannes relinquished the role in October 2015.
Career Highlights
2015 Awarded a Fellowship at the Department of Architecture at Westminster University, London.
2013 Nominated one of Architectural Digest’s Top 100 Talents in Architecture and Interior Design operating in China.
2012 MyTable, designed for Hayworth is the first furniture to be sold on Apple Store.
2011 Opens WangTorpe Studios in Beijing together with Chinese entrepreneur Wang Xiaofei.
2008 Appointed the first ever Group Creative Director for Bang & Olufsen. The single “Calabria 2007” hits #1 on U.S. Billboard’s Hot Dance Airplay and #46 on U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Johannes tours USA together with his brother DJ Rune Reilly Kölsch under the name ENUR.
2007 Receives Royal Danish Design Award for the sofa “Mormor”, designed for HAY.
2005 Appointed External Industrial Design Director for SKYPE.
2004 Receives Danish Music Award for the single “Calabria”.
2001 Establishes partnership with creative agency Avenue20 in Padova.
1997 NASA nightclub opens. The first official interior design project by Johannes Torpe. The project is featured in more than 150 publications worldwide.
Founds Johannes Torpe Studios.
1973 Born in Skanderborg, Denmark. Son of artist Birgitte Elfrida Torpe and musician Patrick David Reilly. Johannes learns to harness his creativity at an early age. In the free-thinking commune of Thy, in the north of Jutland, he is free to pick up paintbrushes and drumsticks, in a playful spirit that has not left him to this day. He leaves for the capital at the age of 12.

Johannes Torpe
