Katja Thorwarth and Jeanne-Françoise Fischer started their cooperation in 2020. They have experience working across multiple scales and programs, especially building in existing structures, flexible and adaptive systeme, and cost-effective design solutions. Their work has been exhibited and awarded the da! prize by the Architektenkammer Berlin in 2024, and published in several articles.
Prior to the cooperation Katja Thorwarth founded her office Büro Katja Thorwarth in 2015 in Berlin. It is working on a broad range of projects from small scale interventions and interior solutions to architectural and urban projects as well as academic work. Her interests in practice and research focus on adaptive typologies, innovative working and learning environments, microarchitecture, prototypes for post war settlements, and sustainable design strategies.
Katja Thorwarth also teaches at Berlin International University in the Faculty of Architecture and Design since 2020, and is a member of the Architektenkammer Berlin.
Prior to the Büro she gained experience at several architectural and international firms including Barkow Leibinger Architects in Berlin, and taught and researched at Technical University Berlin (TUB), University Stuttgart (US) and the University of the Arts Berlin (UdK) in the fields of building typologies and theory and architectural design.
She studied architecture at Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus (BTU), at Universidad Central in Venezuela (UCV), and UdK Berlin, where she received her diploma. She also graduated from University of California (UCLA) in Los Angeles as Master of Architecture.
Jeanne-Françoise Fischer is a Swiss/German architect with many years of international professional and teaching experience. The focus of her work in practice and teaching is in the area of architectural design, emphasizing the analysis and conception of different building typologies, construction methods, economy, ecology, social sustainability, and the urban context.
Jeanne-Françoise holds a full professorship of Architecture at Berlin International University since 2021. Before she taught and researched at the University of the Arts Berlin (UdK), the Dessau International Architecture Graduate School (DIA), the Northeastern University School of Architecture (NEU), and the Technical University of Braunschweig (TUBS). Working experiences and collaborations include Herzog & de Meuron Architects Basel (CH), SANAA Tokyo (JP), Adjaye / Associates London (GB), and Lacaton & Vassal Architectes Paris (F).
Jeanne-Françoise Fischer studied architecture at the Technical University Berlin (TUB), the Federal University of Technology Zurich (ETH), and the University of the Arts Berlin (UdK).
