Profile
Latitude is an international group of professional architects and planners who aim to make our habitat more hospitable to human life. The search for new ways of living, current possibilities inherent in new technologies, and new use of materials are part of Latitude’s concept.
Based in Madrid and Beijing, Latitude provides architecture, planning and design consulting services for governments, businesses partners and organizations. We produce transformative outcomes with a looking far ahead international aspiration and rigorous working attitude. We target major sectors such as technology, education, health care, leisure, commercial and transportation as key factors to increase levels of satisfaction in our lives.
In 2010 Latitude was founded with the commitment to bring a new understanding of how architecture and planning can emerge from combining on-site conditions and innovative ideas. Despite a common practice of designing generic architecture worldwide, we target to design specific architecture which resonates with actual conditions and meet the aspirations of each individual.
We position ourselves on the overlap of the technical rigor and social art. We believe that we deal with our projects in the same way that people deal with their own lives: with pragmatism and intuition, at any latitude.
Philosophy
Originally from Spain, Manuel N. Zornoza established Latitude in 2010 after receiving a Master’s Degree in Urban Design from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. In 2006, the entrepreneur graduated from the Escuela Politecnica Superior, “Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio” Madrid, in Architecture. From his particular point of view “a holistic attitude towards architecture can improve our urban environment, having a direct influence over the quality of our lives”.
Therefore, each time Latitude accepts a new project, Manuel and his team analyze it through a sequence of questions: “What does this project need from us? Can our design solve the problem it presents? Can we enrich the quality of people's daily life through our design solution?”.
The answers come from within their own design process, right at the point where on-site data and innovation meet. As a result, Manuel proposes a concept of architecture that fits into its social and physical context, and contributes to the continuous improvement of our urban environment, at any latitude.
Apart from architectural practice, Manuel regularly lectures and teaches at various universities and international institutions, transmitting his vision on how architecture evolves and becomes a part of our everyday life: “Pragmatism believes that only what works is reliable. The real world is objective; you can measure the quality and success of a project. However, on the other hand, architecture is always there in our daily lives, and our life has a component of intuition, improvisation, and continuous change that we should incorporate into the design process.”
