LK Hjelle designs furniture with a focus on material selection and the quality of the craftsmanship. Ever since it was founded at the beginning of the 1940s, the factory, huddling between precipitous mountains and narrow fiords, has been producing functional and beautiful furniture imbued with great passion.
Skilled craftsmen used to earn their living here, some at the side of their everyday farming job. The production facilities included a cabinet-maker’s workshop, material dryer, varnishing and polishing department, upholstery workshop and a sewing department. To make it easy to transport the goods, the buildings were located by the coast. Until the 1980s, a lot of the production was exported to the USA, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark. During these years, Scandinavian Design was receiving a lot of attention on many markets and several Norwegian producers were very successful.

Modern or classic – LK Hjelle supplies furniture with a timeless relevance. This is why the current collection includes several models that have been in production for nearly 30 years. All of our models are subject to careful evaluation. Only the best ideas are launched on to the market. The production range appeals to different tastes. The common denominator is quality.

DESIGN
Together with young Norwegian designers, LK Hjelle has launched several products that have aroused international interest during the last 10 years. Nowadays, new product ideas very often come both from Norway and abroad. Nevertheless, we do not want to forget the sensitive line selection that characterises a Hjelle product. Little is left to chance here.

NATURE
This is a production which is based 100% on local subcontractors. In this way, we achieve full control, the absolute minimum environmental impact and guaranteed good working conditions during production. Products with service lives longer than 10 years help to care for the environment. If the customer wishes to change the textile, this can be done simply in the factory. Nowadays, a significant part of the company’s operations deals with refurbishing furniture that our customers do not have the heart to throw out. And this is the way it should be with environmentally friendly products.
