Manuelle Gautrand was born in 1961 and qualified as an architect in 1985. She set up her office in 1991 in Paris, where she lives and works. She has handled all kinds of projects, whether built or in study phase, ranging from housing and offices to cultural buildings, business premises and leisure facilities. Her clients are public contracting authorities as well as private firms, in France and abroad. The ‘C42’ Citroën flagship showroom building, at the Champs-Elysée Avenue in Paris, has contributed to make a name for herself with the large public and the International.
In 2009 Manuelle Gautrand has started the studies for the AVA tower in La Défense and has got the planning permission. She has also completed her first building at abroad: a shopping mall in Bangkok. 2010 has seen the completion of two significant buildings in France: ‘LaM’ - Lille museum of modern, contemporary and outsider art, opened in September 2010, and a Business Centre in Saint-Etienne, a building of 25.000sqm.
2 other buildings will be delivered in 2011 in Paris: the ‘Origami’ office building, and the restructuring and conversion of the old theatre ‘Gaîté Lyrique’ to turn it into an interactive platform for 21st century music and arts. Her teaching activity began at the Ecole Spéciale d’Architecture de Paris (1999-2000), and the Ecole d'Architecture Paris-Val-de-Seine (2000-03). She has also teach in Technische Universität in Vienna in 2009. She teachs in 2010 at the University of Florida School of Architecture in the United-States. She has also exceptional teaching actions in various European schools of architecture in the framework of workshops.
Institutions both in France and abroad have often invited her to present her work in conferences and seminars, notably in Antwerp, Bangkok, Berlin, Budapest, Dubaï, Ho-Chi-minh, Karlsruhe, London, Luxembourg, Madrid, Moscow, Montreal, Mexico, Oslo, Paris, Riga, Tel-Aviv, Toronto, Vienna, Wroclaw, a.s.o. She has sat on a great many juries for public and private competitions and prizes.
Exhibitions presenting the work of her office include the Rencontres Internationales d’Architecture at Orléans (ARCHILAB 2001, 2002), the International Biennale of Architecture in Venice (2002, 2004 and 2008), an exhibition at the Galerie d’Architecture in Paris (June 2003), at the Zezeze Galerie in Tel-Aviv and shows in Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy and the Netherlands. Monographs on her output have been published in France and abroad, and reports on her projects appear regularly in the press. Two films on her work - ‘l’Art & la Manière’ and ‘Chic’ - were shown on ARTE television in 2008 and 2009.
