In 2014, following a 5 year collaboration with the world renowned Pritzker Prize frm of OMA led by Rem Koolhaas & directly under Partner David Gianotten, Viviano Villarreal-Buerón formally establishes MASS OPERATIONS; A young and multi-cultural design studio that tackles Architecture and Interior design projects through the core principles of: Innovation, Efciency & Aesthetics. Guided by these principles the studio strides to bridge the gap between conceptualization and realization by exhaustively searching for new concepts that result in simple yet strong operations that shape space. The studio’s recent projects include:
— Cuculcan Mixed Use, a 22,000m2 mixed used residential complex in Cancun, Mexico (Competition 2017)
— Altos Mayakoba, a 5-Tower 60,000 residential complex (competition 2018)
— Carmen, a 3-Tower 20,000m2 residential complex (Under Construction exp. completion 2018)
— Stair House, a 750m2 Villa (Under Construction exp. completion 2018)
— Antilope Café, a 80m2 interior design for a new coffee concept in México. (Built 2018)
In its short 3 year life span the design studio has acquired several design accolades
— 2017 Mexican Young Architects Bienalle (FCARM). Silver Medal, for the “Artists Loft in Wan Chai”
— 2017 Mexican Young Architects Bienalle (FCARM). Honorable Mention, for the “Hollywoord Rd. Ofce”
— 2017 Parque Ciudadando Mty / Citizen Park Monterrey Competition. Shortlisted Finalist.
— 2017 Mextropoli Pavilion, Mexico City. Shortlisted Finalist.
— 2016 Archdaily, Building of the Year. Nominee, for the “Artists Loft in Wan Chai”
Biography
Viviano Villarreal-Buerón
Holds a Bachelor of Architecture from ITESM (‘08) in conjunction with the Universidad Politécnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona. As an Architect he has over 10 years experience in the International Architecture, Interior design & Project Management feld. He’s collaborated with internationally renowned architects the likes of Rem Koolhaas of OMA (Pritzker Prize year 2000), Bjarne Mastenbroek of SeARCH Architects (Aga Kahn Award ‘07), Felipe Assadi of Assadi + Pulido (Architectural Design Vanguard ‘06) and Julien de Smedt of JDS (Mies Van De Rohe honarable mention 2005, ‘07 & ‘09); from small to large scale projects across the world. Villarreal-Buerón has also taught and lectured extensively throughout Asia and Latin America in both private and public institutions as well as design symposiums, of which include:
