OPENUU is an award-winning interdisciplinary design studio founded in 2011 that established its presence in Hong Kong in 2012, through the leadership of design duo, Caroline Chou, and Kevin Lim. The OPENUU design team brings their international background, unique design aesthetics and vision to approach each project with playful pragmatism and a focus on society and engagement to create innovative spaces for all to enjoy.
Under Kevin Lim and Caroline Chou‘s leadership and vision, OPENUU focuses on space conversions and warehouse renovations in the commercial realm, with garnered expertise in the retail and F&B industry. Together, the duo creates spaces that encompass the surrounding environments and lifestyles through unique and dynamic design. OPENUU creates to engage with people and engages with people to create.
Biography
Kevin Lim | Managing Director / Founding Partner
Kevin Lim founded OPENUU in 2011. He was born in Melrose, Massachusetts and spent his life in Hong Kong and the United States. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art & Planning and an Associate of Applied Science from Le Cordon Bleu. Honing in on his expansive educational background in design and architecture and the culinary industry, Kevin worked in the architectural office of T.A.T. of Boston, Massachusetts and as a chef in the kitchen of Blue Ginger of Wellesley, Massachusetts, before co-founding the OPENUU design studio and establishing OPENUU's presence in Hong Kong.
Now, as Managing Director, Kevin has spearheaded, managed, and delivered an extensive portfolio of OPENUU projects that have won four Best-of-Year Awards by Interior Design magazine, along with Perspective magazine’s 40-under-40 Award, and 40 under 40 Designer Award in China (Hong Kong) 中国设计杰出青年, by Guangzhou Design Week. Additionally, Kevin has continued to assist in the advocation of the value of architecture through the AIA, where he serves as the Vice President of the AIA Hong Kong Chapter.
Caroline Chou | Design Director / Partner
Caroline was born in Plano, Texas, and spent her life in Taiwan and the United States. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College, and Master of Architecture from Rhode Island School of Design. Caroline, an Associate AIA member, now works closely with the AIA Hong Kong Young Architects Group as the Co-Chair, providing her expertise and passion to the community of young individuals who have made significant contributions to the architecture profession early in their careers. Prior to her role at OPENUU, Caroline worked in the architecture and design offices of Steven Leach International of Taipei, Taiwan; PSI and CL3 Architects of Hong Kong - all of which gave Caroline the expansive industry knowledge that she now brings to her current role as Design Director of OPENUU.
