Sofia von Ellrichshausen and Mauricio Pezo
PEZO VON ELLRICHSHAUSEN ARCHITECTS was founded in Buenos Aires in 2001 by Mauricio Pezo and Sofia von Ellrichshausen. They currently work in Concepcion, southern Chile, in a cross production between Art and Architecture.
Their built work includes XYZ Pavilions (Concepcion, 2001), Rivo house (Valdivia, 2003), 120 Doors Pavilion (Concepcion, 2003), Poli house (Coliumo, 2005), Wolf house (Andalue, 2007), Parr house (Chiguayante, 2008), Fosc house (Venado, 2008) and several public art projects. Under construction projects are Baum house and Pael house in Concepcion and Hema studio in Buenos Aires.
The office has been awarded the Best Work of Young Architects Prize at the V Iberoamerican Biennial (Montevideo, 2006), the Architectural Quality Prize at the XV Chilean Architecture Biennial (Santiago, 2006) and the Comended Prize at the AR Awards for Emerging Architecture (London, 2005). They have been the curators of the Chilean Exhibition at the 11th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia (Venice, 2008).
Their work has been compiled in a monographic book by Ediciones ARQ (Santiago, 2007) and selected for several books, among others; Hatch: the new architectural generation (Lawrence King, London, 2009); Architecture Now vol 5 (Taschen, Köln, 2007); Key Contemporary Buildings (Lawrence King, London, 2008) and the Phaidon Atlas of the 21st Century (Phaidon, London, 2008). It has also been published in several specialized magazines like Domus (Milan), A+U (Tokyo), Detail (Munich), 2G (Barcelona), Icon (London), Mark (Amsterdam), Architectural Record (New York), C3 (Seoul), Abitare (Milan), Architectural Review (London), Arquitectura Viva (Madrid), Summa (Buenos Aires) and Arq (Santiago).
The work of the office has been showed in several exhibitions, among others: Freshlatino (Hamburg, 2009), Building, dwelling, thinking exhibition at the IVAM (Valencia, 2008), Made in Chile at University of Texas School of Architecture (Austin, 2007), Chilean Architects in Belgrade at the Museum of Applied Arts (Belgrade, 2007), Visions of Latin American Architecture in El Museo del Barrio (New York, 2007), 44 Young Architects in the Centre d`Art Santa Monica (Barcelona, 2007), Casa Granturismo project (Lisbon, 2006), 20 Projects des Jeunes Architectes Chiliens at la Maison de l´Architecture (Paris, 2005), Frontis Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia (Venice, 2004) and in the Panorama Emergente exhibition at the IV Bienal Iberoamericana de Arquitectura (Lima, 2004).
