In 1912, entrepreneur Renzo Frau, of Sardinian origins, registered the Poltrona Frau trademark with the Turin Chamber of Commerce. Following a series of generational changes, in 1962 the Nazareno Gabrielli group acquired the Turin-based company, which relocated to Tolentino a year later. In the 1980s, the company expanded its production, focusing on the automotive and contract sectors. In 2004, the company became Poltrona Frau Group, along with Cassina and Cappellini. In 2014, the Haworth family acquired the Poltrona Frau Group, which became Haworth Lifestyle in 2025.
