Studio Evren Basbug

Founded İzmir based in 2012, Studio Evren Basbug Architects Inc. is providing services for all fields and measures of architecture, urban scale and all disciplines of design. In the studio all design work is developed with a collective process. The young design team forms a critical balance between the experience and the experimental; thus keeping the design mindset fresh at all times.

Evren Basbug (M. Arch.), the co-founder of the office, holds a professional record of 25 national and international architectural competition awards including 4 first prizes and 2 WAF (World Architecture Festival) category nominations. Beside his professional career, Evren Basbug teaches as a part-time instructor in İzmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Architecture.

Evren Basbug was born in Ankara in 1981. He was graduated from METU (Middle East Technical University) Faculty of Architecture in 2003. He earned a M. Arch degree from İstanbul Bilgi University, Architectural Design Graduate Program in 2009. During his undergraduate studies, he worked at DB Architects (Bünyamin Derman, Dilek Topuz Derman) and TH&İdil Architects (Tamer Basbug, Hasan Ozbay, Baran Idil, Aslı Ozbay).

After his graduation as an architect, he continued working at such offices as TH&İdil Architects and Uygur Architects (Semra Uygur, Özcan Uygur). In this 3 years period he was involved in several design teams attending over 20 national and international architectural competitions.

In 2006 he founded Dist Architects Ltd. a bicentric design firm (İstanbul & London) together with Ceyhun Baskın and İnanç Eray. The same year, their winning proposal which is submitted for the National Competition for the Design of Bursa Kızyakup City Park; has received 2 international awards from Dubai (UAE) and Cannes (France) with the alias "Plot-Scape". Evren Başbuğ holds a professional record of 25 national / international awards including 4 first prizes, 3 second prizes and 4 third prizes.

In 2008 together with Ceyhun Baskın and İnanç Eray, he established "kolokyum.com", an interactive platform with the motto "Open Source Architectural Share". The same year, "kolokyum.com", was nominated as one of Turkey’s 15 promising web projects by "e-tohum". "kolokyum.com" today, stands as one of the most innovative websites on architectural competitions with a community of more than 39.000 members.

In 2012, the winning proposal for the competition of "Bornova Yeşilova Neolithic Settlement Visitor Center and Archeological Research Facility" has been nominated and shortlisted for the project category of "13th National Architecture Awards" and also for the future project category of "WAF - World Architecture Festival 2012".

In 2013 the design team composed of Evren Başbuğ, İnanç Eray, Meriç Kara and Engin Ayaz was shortlisted for "İstanbul Modern / Young Architects Program (YAP)" with the project "seapeaker".

In 2013, 3rd prize winning proposal for the competition of "MEB Campus in Milas" has been shortlisted for the future project category of "WAF - World Architecture Festival 2013".

In 2016, "Museum of Pre-Historic Life" (Bornova Yeşilova Neolithic Settlement Visitor Center and Archeological Research Facility) has been nominated and shortlisted for the building category of "15th National Architecture Awards".

Since 2011, he is teaching as a part-time studio instructor at Izmir University of Economics. He had also been teaching as a part-time studio instructor at Yasar University for two terms in 2014-2015 years. Evren Basbug continues his professional career within his İzmir based practice "steb | studio evren basbug".
