Profile
Studio Tate is a Melbourne-based interior architecture practice creating spaces with personality. We look at the big picture right down to the smallest detail.
For us, interior architecture doesn’t stop at the doorway – our designs integrate with exterior architecture and landscape design to amplify the potential of any space, from both aesthetic and functional perspectives. But – we also love playing with the fine grain, injecting our projects with moments of intrigue that capture the imagination.
Our team at Studio Tate bring their experience in bespoke and multi-residential, hospitality, retail and workplace projects to Studio Tate. Their complementary design approaches bring our projects to life with style and substance.
We produce original, commercially viable solutions with enduring appeal, but what we offer is so much more than the end result. It might not be visible to the naked eye, but each of our projects is a series of small chapters that together forms a story of collaboration between our team, our clients and the talented people we work with. We want everyone to get the most out of that process, which is why we have developed our studio structure to include design and business directors working together to keep everything running smoothly.
Biography
Alex Hopkins, Principal Interior Designer
Alex Hopkins makes things happen. One of Studio Tate’s Design Directors, Alex’s infectious energy and resourceful determination are why she excels at developing creative solutions across the studio, whether on the business or design side. An interior architect with extensive experience across workplace, multi-residential and hospitality portfolios, at Studio Tate Alex’s varied responsibilities include design review and direction as well as business development and practice strategy.
A people person, relationships are important to Alex, whether clients, colleagues, friends or family. Her ready laugh and appetite for life make her the kind of person you want around, whether it’s a strategy brainstorm or a dinner party. You always know when Alex is in the room, and her style – classic with a certain je ne sais quoi – extends to her abilities to inject colour and life into any space and setting.
Carley Nicholls, Strategy & Practice
Carley Nicholls keeps the foundations of our studio rock solid. As Studio Tate’s Strategy and Practice Director, she keeps our systems and processes ship -shape, but she’s also a firm believer in taking time out to relax and have fun. A problem solver by nature, her bullet-proof forward planning and robust decision-making add an extra dimension to our management team. With a background in management consulting and international development, and specialising in project planning and resource management, Carley brings her diverse experience and methodical approach to Studio Tate.
She might not be a designer but Carley has an eye for style, she enjoys beautiful things and favours interesting, quirky pieces that make their way into her home, her jewellery box or wardrobe. Nurturing the abilities of younger staff is also something close to her heart, and something she has a lot of practice in. Good business means good design, and Carley’s expertise helps Studio Tate excel at both.
