Trahan Architects is a global architecture firm with offices in New Orleans and New York. Our work spans the realms of culture, education, athletics, residences, ecology, and beyond. Our firm is founded on the belief that the mindful design of everyday spaces can elevate human experience.

With our roots in New Orleans and our global perspective in New York, we approach each project as part of a unique ecosystem. This careful consideration of context runs alongside a process where technical innovation and aesthetic possibilities merge, enabling us to shape our communal environments in new and meaningful ways.

We design spaces that respond to the way we live today and lay the foundations for our future. We seek to create beautiful structures that reflect the uniqueness of people’s lives.

Victor F. “Trey” Trahan, III, FAIA, established Trahan Architects at the age of thirty-two, and the firm has since designed a series of domestic and international projects that have received global recognition for work that is historically grounded and aesthetically sublime.

Since the firm was established it has built a portfolio with a wide range of building types and scales, including academic, cultural, athletic, ecclesiastic, residential, commercial, mixed-use, and urban projects throughout the U.S. and overseas. Notable projects include the Coca-Cola Stage at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, The Mercedes-Benz Superdome Capital Improvements in New Orleans, Louisiana, and a unique and important conservation and preservation undertaking at Corcovado National Park in Patagonia, Chile.

The firm is ranked as the #1 Design Firm in the U.S. for 2019 by Architect Magazine, the official publication of the American Institute of Architects. Trahan Architects has won over 100 national, regional, and local awards, as well as several international design competitions, including four National AIA Awards, in less than 25 years.

Biography

Trey Trahan
With a strong investment in the social mission of architecture, Trey’s work is oriented toward inclusive design, environmental values, and creating venues of opportunity for powerful communal experiences. Trey is commended for his innovative use of sustainable materials, stemming from his strong personal belief in the value of environmental conservancy.

Trey’s practice is guided by the belief that as architects, we must consider the impact of our designs on our natural and social environments. Trahan Architects works with sensitivity and restraint, and strives to create beautiful spaces that have a strong sense of rootedness and connection to place. The firm’s work comes with a responsibility – to our clients, our environment, and our communities.

Trey was a visiting critic and distinguished lecturer at the School of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Southern California, and at the MIT School of Architecture and Planning. He is a member of the global advisory board for the Van Allen Institute in New York and a board member of The Cultural Landscape Foundation in Washington, D.C., a non-profit that educates and engages the public in our shared historical landscapes.

An avid art collector, Trey lends his various and unique pieces and collections to museums and exhibits globally. Trey resides in New Orleans, Louisiana and Patagonia, Chile.
