ZOGRAPHOS DESIGNS LIMITED has been producing high end corporate furniture for the contract market for over 40 years since its founding in 1964 by designer Nicos Zographos.
The CH28 lounge chair designed in 1959 became the first chair in the collection, and was awarded the NCBI top furniture design award in the same year. Tested on the market while Nicos Zographos was still at Skidmore Owings & Merrill, the response was immediate.
By the time Zographos left SOM in 1962 he had already introduced a number of new products onto the market, specified in turn on many of SOM's corporate interior projects and meeting with an equally positive response each time.
The Alpha base was designed one year later in 1960, and has since become ZOGRAPHOS' signature design. A solid stainless steel or bronze base, it weightlessly and effortlessly floats off the ground. Used under tables (high and low) and under a wide range of bucket chairs (4 or 5 star) the Alpha base is unique in its genre and in the industry. Immediately recognizable, it has come to be known and appreciated by architects and designers as a truly timeless elegant design of unprecedented quality - widely specified today throughout the world on major projects.
The CH2 bucket chair was the first of a wide range of bucket chairs to be paired with the Alpha four star base, quickly becoming a major part of the company's identity. Industrial Design Magazine called the bucket chair one of the country's best designed products in its Annual Design Review.
Numerous versions of the original bucket chair evolved from it and a wide range of new products followed over the years resulting in a collection that New York Magazine once described as "The Rolls Royce of classic modern".
Rounding the corners of the classic stainless steel post and beam table -a simple and yet technically difficult feat to achieve- the new radius corners provided yet another timeless piece into the collection. Families of companion furniture have since followed, creating a full range collection consisting primarily of corporate seating, lounge and conference furniture.
ZOGRAPHOS furniture has been recognized over the years through numerous awards, museum exhibitions and publications, with the CH66 tubular chair included in the Permanent Collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
