Kohina designed the headquarters of Elisa Oyj, a market leader of telecommunications, ICT and online services in Finland. Elisa’s business is continuously changing, as digitalization influences the work that people do, ways of working, management, tools and the working environment. Kohina has developed working environments in collaboration with Elisa over the years in various locations. Elisa being a pioneer in utilizing digitalization in working methods and developing multipurpose offices, the development process also took place at the headquarters.
The head office premises did not anymore reflect the changes in the working culture. Elisa wanted to bring forward the Elisa Ideal Work (EIW) philosophy, a turn in the evolution of working environments, in the physical elements of the space. Elisa wanted the work environment solutions to strongly support their processes and the possibilities of digitalization, as well as working methods that are flexible and utilize the multiseated environment. The space should also encourage arranged and spontaneous meetings.
The changing working methods and digitalization served as a framework for the spatial solutions when the collaboration proceeded to designing the head office spaces. When it comes to working, the most important features for the people at Elisa are the varied working spaces that now enable cooperation as well as the quiet corners where to retreat alone or together with others. There are also areas everywhere which support brainstorming and working together.
The core values of Elisa, customer orientation, responsibility, renewal, results orientation and collaboration, have been designed into the spatial solutions. Values can be seen in the themes of different floors and areas at the head office – in the functions, spatial solutions, colors, fabrics, surface materials as well as high quality of furniture. The themed floors have been designed as unique and interesting as possible, to attract the employees to the head office to meet people and develop new ideas and innovations.
One of the main objectives of the constantly developing EIW concept is to improve the staff satisfaction and to support processes, which, according to studies, increases efficiency and customer satisfaction. Now the 23 000 sqm headquarter premises support these objectives. In 2016 our client Elisa Oyj was also ranked on 2nd place in the “Great Place to Work” listing in Finland.
“Employee satisfaction and feedback on the spaces tell us that we have succeeded.” - Workspace Development Manager / Elisa Oyj
The continuous workplace development as well as spatial design projects still continue with Elisa Oyj, at the headquarters as well as in other locations and cities where the Elisa Ideal Work -concept is being implemented and further developed in collaboration between Kohina and Elisa.
