The Edgar Morin Library embodies the renewal of the university campus of Villetaneuse, that was initiated in the 70’s. The last floor, cantilevered towards the university, is likened to a figurehead of the campus. The winding volume, adapting itself to the constraints of the existing library, marks the limits of the campus as well as it accompanies the line of the new tramway. By its size, the homogeneity of its façade’s pattern, thanks to the noble material that coats it (galvannealed shining steel), the new library stands for a grand public equipment. It symbolizes a link between the surrounding city and the university itself. The internal spaces offer a smooth promenade, as well for the readers as for the staff, thanks to a continuous path through the consultation areas. The final double height in the cantilever, the large openings towards the city in the North, and the patio in the South, are some of the generous architectural devices that allow the users to fully enjoy the experience in the new library.
