For Safari House, interior design studio Marcos Catalan proposes elements that soften the resounding geometry and convey the experience of living in a Mediterranean home. Accordingly, light materials characteristic of Ibiza Island such as cane, seaweed braids and wood embellish the dwelling creating an interplay with the concrete and Ibizan stone.
The house is organised into two floors: an upper, pavilionesque floor distributed into three spaces upholstered in natural fibres for the master bedroom, the living room, and the kitchen/diner; and a lower, more summery and social floor with the guest bedrooms, the games room and a utility with a cooker, organised around a large transverse porch with views to the outside.
The lower floor is furnished with the Salvador chairs by Miguel Milá, edited by AOO Barcelona and a large cork table which serves as the central hub. Around the table, the hemp rugs decorate areas where items of furniture such as the Tokyo 522 chaise lounge by Cassina and the TMM and Cesta lamps by Santa & Cole strive to infuse an atmosphere of Mediterranean sensuality and help the space to tie in more closely with the outside.
The bedroom on the upper floor is the most intimate area of the home which houses another of Miguel Milá’s designs: Asa. This table lamp in the shape of a cylinder blends in excellently with other elements designed in natural materials creating an exquisite arrangement of curves and straight shapes.
The result is a spacious house connected in an organic manner with the outside where people can take in the atmosphere of Ibiza without leaving their home.
