Bosc - Contemporary furniture made in les Landes

In the north, there are thousands of hectares of forest, mainly pines. All along the Adour is bordered by oaks, and the wood is used for furniture and wine casks. A chair factory sprang up in Hagetmau in 1893. It was the first in a long line... The workshops gradually became businesses. The 1930s were good times for them. The factories modernised their equipment and acquired a know-how that was the envy of everyone. The decade from 1950 to 1960 marked the arrival of comfort in homes. The chair industry employed no fewer than 3000 people in the 1990s alone.

This was when, after two generations, the Bastiat family engaged in the manufacture of chairs and furniture. The business was founded on 1st April 1964 by Marcelle and Joseph Bastiat. They had met each other and learnt their trade in the Capdevielle factory. One was in the carpentry workshop, and the other in finishing. Their children, Alain and Michel grew up surrounded by wood shavings, the smell of wood, tools, textiles and varnish. Recently Alain, who manages the business with his wife, Geneviève, wanted to create a new brand. This carries the symbolic name of BOSC and is based on the experience and know-how in cabinet-making and upholstery for household chairs. The launch was also an occasion to work with a nearby industry specialising in treating and transforming duck down.

Today, Bosc proposes 12 collections of armchairs, sofas and coffee tables designed by Iratzoki & Lizaso, Samuel Accoceberry and Abad Diseño.

Designed by Jean Louis Iratzoki, Duffle sofa can be designed in many different ways, from an armchair to much larger compositions. The various modules are placed on an oak or walnut platform. The wood and leather decorations are a reminder of the charms of a duffle coat.

Designed by Iratzoki & Lizaso, Repaus is a particularly comfortable armchair thanks to its generous size, enveloping shape and accommodating armrests. Hand-sewn using linen thread, the wide zig-zag stitches enable different pieces of fabric to be assembled, like the technique used to make espadrilles. The collection comprises a high-back armchair, an ottoman and a low-back armchair.

Samuel Accoceberry’s Paleta armchair’s structure is a nod to the Scandinavian style. The shape of the armrests is reminiscent of the paleta bat used to play Basque Pelote.

Designed by Samuel Accoceberry, Concha is a family of small armchairs and sofas with a compact shape. Their enveloping and accommodating volume is directly inspired by conch shells.

Designed by Samuel Accoceberry, Yas is a traditionally designed chair given a distinctly contemporary look. The oak base harks back to the stilts of Les Landes and it consists of an eiderdown attached to the structure. Fine feather and down cushions finish the ensemble.

A set of coffee tables has recently been added to the Bosc sofa collections. Made from solid oak, they have been designed by the Bilbao-based studio Abad Diseño.
