Top Belgian office furniture brand Bulo debuted the new DAN collection at Biennale Interieur in Kortrijk on 17 October. Empowering everyone who loves work and not constrained by space, time or place, DAN thrives to make a radical shift away from formal offices while maintaining Bulo’s legacy. Designed and manufactured in Mechelen, the new collection keeps-in with the same attention to durability, responsibility and multi-functional application. TLmag checked in with Bulo CEO Christian Salez to hear his thoughts on this latest collection and to share some other exciting news. (Interview by Adrian Madlener)

×TLmag: How is DAN flexible and conducive to different environments?
Christian Salez: The essence of DAN is a beautiful black-stained wooden ladder, which in itself has so many refined details that you can use as eye-catching furniture. Maybe you'll implement it to display magazines in the living room or to hang your clothing in the bathroom. Next to the ladder, we created a metal connector – based on traditional Japanese joinery – that will enable you to create larger combinations. DAN is an enabler for the creativity in all of us, offering endless possibilities.

×TLmag: Designed for the love of working, how does the choice of material, colour and form for this latest collection reflect Bulo's commitment to durability and multi-functional applications?
CS: Bulo's creative director Jan Aerts and I have a soft spot for wood. It's warm, natural and has virtually no carbon footprint compared to steel. Thanks to its design, you will be able to change your standard DAN desk into a standing version, just by lifting the tabletop to a higher level. The name DAN refers to ranking in Japanese martial arts, hence different levels. The collection will grow with you, your business and lifestyle, without loosing any flexibility.
TLmag: What is Bulo’s aim with the new showroom in Clerkenwell, London?
CS: London is the springboard of our international business – where we can meet the world and introduce Bulo. Clerkenwell has an amazing creative vibe that speaks for itself. We don't see our space so much as a showroom, but more as a workspace – used by talented cum creative freelancers and to host regular events. Work isn't constrained by space or time, it just happens. That's exactly how we want you to get acquainted with what we offer.

×TLmag: How will the design of this storefront reflect the brand's value and adaptive style?
CS: Above all, we are a manufacturer, so we are able to produce whatever we need – even bespoke solutions. Next to that, we have our own team of interior designers – who work with some of the best architects in the world. We aim to change the space about every quarter – giving Bulo an edge, as a great example of our craftsmanship and expertise.
