In the early 1920's the Swedish Society of Industrial Design led a "campaign for better designed articles in the home". As a result Orrefors created a school of artists led by Edward Hald, Simon Gate and later Vicke Lindstrand. This was considered one of the most important relationships between community and the design field, later influencing other companies such as Gustavsberg, Rörstrand, and Upsala-Ekeby.
This vase was designed by Hald during this early vital period of the company.
