Adjustable chaise lounge for the Organic Design
Primavera, steel, mecate webbing
60"w x 25"d x 30"h
During the seminal Organic Design Competition of 1940 at the Museum of Modern Art, a second competition for Latin American designers was held and exhibited at the Museum. The competition intended to showcase imaginative modern designs from Central and South America and encouraged the use of local materials from these countries. Winners were flown to New York and given 1000 dollars for expenses. The winning designs were to be distributed through Bloomingdale's by special order. This design was one of five winners of the competition, and is published in the Organic Design catalog. The chaise lounge features an adjustable rear leg and retains the original straps and label. A rare design from a seminal modern design competition in original condition.
