This chair and desk were conceived in 1937 when Breuer received his first American commission with Bryn Mawr College. The design was a continuation of the work he had been pursuing in Europe, most notably with Isokon Furniture in England. The pioneering use of plywood in the construction of these modern classics influenced the fledgling group of American designers who carried the technique further after the War.
