Desk for The Price Tower, Bartlesville, Oklahoma
Mahogany, brass, copper
72"w x 26"d x 28"h
Frank Lloyd Wright called Price Tower "the tree that escaped the crowded forest." Commissioned by Harold C. Price, founder of H.C. Price Company, Price Tower was completed in 1956. The nineteen-story building was based on a design originally conceived for St. Mark's in New York City and is Wright's tallest building. Wright had a distain for perpendicular lines in his designs, and the desk exhibits the angularity that is repeated throughout the floor plan and exterior of the Tower. A rarity at auction, this desk is one of only a handful removed from the building.
