Product description

Enameled metal, glazed ceramic, iron
31"dia x 81"h
This rare floor lamp was created in an edition of approximately fifteen examples for the cafe Le Pigalle in Paris. Several examples were destroyed in the late 1960s when the Cafe was refurbished and of the original series, fewer than five examples are known to exist. The collaborative effort combines the organic forms of Jouve's ceramics with the rectilinear quality of Mategot. The architectural scale and sculptural quality of the lamp is unique in Mategot's oeuvre. This lamp features six independently adjustable lamps that deflect light down or up onto the parasol canopy. Mategot designed three perforated shelves on the lower stem that can be placed in any of nine adjustable positions. Three exceptional vases by Jouve in his distinctive black glaze with differing interior colors are positioned along the upper stem.
Literature: Les Annees 50, Bony, pg. 267 illustrates a detail of a second example of this lamp in situ.
