Product description
In the earliest models of the molded plywood chairs, Eames strived to achieve a fused bond between the rubber shock mount and the plywood seat and spine. The intended design, void of metal, lent a seamless quality to this important connection. Ultimately, the joint failed to be durable and a screw and metal washer mount were added to strengthen the connection at the spine. The exposed metal hardware became an important aesthetic change to the final production version of this famous chair.
