Oriental writing desk

This rare desk illustrates a crossover of influences in the work of Paul T. Frankl. The silhouette of this desk shows a clear adherence to contemporary architectural design in the late 1920s, appearing as a skyscraper with setbacks at intervals on each side. The asymmetry of the form is punctuated by decorative drawer pulls that are inspired by Chinese design. These seemingly disparate elements coalesce into a unique furniture form that was to make Frankl one of the great designers of the Art Deco era.
