Mouille developed the “Totem,” “Column” and “Skyscraper” series of lamps in 1962, utilizing both incandescent and fluorescent light. In this example, the fluorescent bulb is of a red color, which was used “to create or modify the background atmosphere” according to Mouille. The lamps varied greatly in size and in design, from perforated and sliced columns, to more elaborate stacked forms. These lamps were never put into full production, and only a small number were created.
Provenance: Christie’s New York 1985, collection of Serge Mouille.
