Hit the bricks Like most things, it is in the nature of technology to evolve. We need only to look at the development of the mobile phone, with today's smartphone barely recognisable as the descendants of those brick-like devices from just 30 years ago. Speaking of bricks, this piece of human technology – one of mankind's oldest – seems to go against this principle, having not fundamentally changed in thousands of years. Danish brick manufacturer Randers Tegl and its long-format brick Ultima, however, are playing a part in brick evolution – even if the centuries-old waterstruck technique is used in its production. It is, after all, what helps to give Ultima its distinctive, contemporary appeal. When it comes to bricks, the old adage about not fixing things which aren't broken generally seems to ring true. Randers Tegl has other ideas, though. |
