Wall and Floor Tiles Made from Coconuts
Environmental or eco-conscious products have never been more popular. But while there are many products across all interiors and architectural sectors that claim planet-loving credentials, few are without compromise. Once materials, manufacturing and transport are factored in honestly, 100% sustainable and renewable products can seem like an unachievable goal.
Completely naturally-growing coconut shell is a material – when used for interior architecture – that’s perhaps as close as you can get to pure sustainability. Hardwearing and able to withstand extreme moisture, combined with a warm look and feel, coconut shells are the perfect resource for specifiers looking for sustainable floor and wall tiles, while the natural variance of the shell brings a depth that’s difficult to find in overly manufactured products.
Cocomosaic: Handmade Coconut-Made Tiles
All the coconut tiles here are manufactured by the Indonesian brand, Cocomosaic, using only the inside or outside of the coconut shell, then applying the right polishing techniques or paint effects to create individual patterns. Handmade by cutting and bonding together tiny but perfectly-proportioned sections into larger tiles, Cocomosaic tiles are produced using only water-based, low-emission glues, paints and lacquers.
Easily cut to size with a jigsaw and attached to any firm surface with normal tile adhesive, coconut tiles can be crafted into furniture designs such as cabinet doors, table tops and chairs, as well as statement feature walls and floors.
