About Brick in the Wall
MORE ABOUT BRICK IN THE WALL
BRICK IN THE WALL® originates from the fascinating world of decoration where I’ve noticed the demand for seamless integrated light.
The first luminaire, designed 15 years ago by the Belgian architect Stephane Boens, was the NORMALL®. A plaster fitting with a pure and minimalistic design.
To obtain a heat resistant product with high density and hardness, we’ve developed our own plaster CALCYT®. The possibility to paint the luminaires in the same colour as the wall or ceiling added even more to the success of CALCYT®.
The basic idea of our collection is to create minimalistic, unexpected and inspiring plaster fittings. This by developing shapes in true symbiosis with your architecture. A selected range of shapes, combined with a variety of light sources, will satisfy the needs of the most demanding decorator. Always hungry to create more state of the art luminaires, we consistently push the bounderies of lighting architecture by our new designs.
And we go even further. Flexibility and creative custom-made solutions are the basis of any long-term relationship. We validate this idea by designing real pieces of art in collaboration with you, our customer . This gives you the opportunity to create your very own Brick in the Wall luminaire. ‘Brick in the Wall’ assures worldwide distribution of its products through an extensive sales network.

BRICK IN THE WALL CAPTURED THREE INTERNATIONAL DESIGN PRICES
The young and dynamic manufacturer ‘Brick in the Wall®’, specialized in the production of seamless plaster fittings, captured for the product “ATMOS” two international prizes in March 2010.
Brick in the Wall® received the very prestigious ‘Red Dot Design Award Winner 2010’, as well as the ‘Design Plus Award 2010’ powered by Light & Building.
It’s not a secret how tough it is to be granted with the ‘Red Dot Design Award’ if you know that this year approximately 1636 companies from 57 countries ( from all types of industries ) have taken part with a total of 4252 entries.
In the end, a renowned jury selected only the very best from the top-class field. As a winner, the “ATMOS” will be displayed for at least one year in the red dot design museum in Germany.
Carl Devolder, the Belgian designer of the ATMOS and a lighting addict with more than 20 years of experience in the lighting industry proves the innovation of his design and concept. The idea behind the Atmos is ‘creating a bright incision’ in the wall.
It’s the second time over two years that Carl Devolder is granted with the Design Plus Award.
Recently the ATMOS product has been awarded with the iF Award 2011.
The Atmos is a seamless wall luminaire which creates a pattern of movement by emitting a ray of light from an incision in the architecture. The seamless plaster fitting can be installed as a wall-washer with the light beam at the top or the bottom.
Soft, undulating wave shapes exiting and entering the wall give the architect an unlimited freedom. The Atmos is foreseen with a special designed printed circuit board for the new generation of the ‘Rebel’ led with integrated driver, to obtain a maximum light output with an optimal heat release. The shape ensures perfect light distribution. The use of colored LEDs allows the architect to personalize his project. The Atmos can be directly installed in a brick wall or in gypsum by means of an optional and ingenious plaster kit. “Brick in the Wall® “ developed for the whole product range it’s own Calcyt® plaster with amazing characteristics. Calcyt® is a high density, heat resistance, next generation plaster, with optimal hardness and light reflection properties.
The snow white Calcyt® fittings can easily be painted in the colour of your wall or ceiling.
