About bekind.
MORE ABOUT BEKIND.
bekind. is more than a furniture brand. It’s a conscious mindset.
Initiating change takes the right mindset. bekind. is our guiding principle towards nature, society, our employees, suppliers and the people using our furniture – big and small ones.
This conscious mindset makes us build furniture for generations – creating a sustainable world of furniture – free from a throw-away mentality, because earth conscious lifestyle starts at home – with small things
On several occasions we had the opportunity to produce pieces of furniture that meet our expectations of a sustainable world of furniture for friends and clients with a similar mindset to ours. We quickly realised that producing exclusive unique pieces of furniture is not sufficient to initiate the necessary change in the way we buy and use furniture - helping people to turn their backs on the concept of short term usage of throw away furniture. Abandoning this concept requires more people- actually as many as possible- to focus on sustainability and their personal consumer behaviour.
We decided to introduce the serial production of sustainable furniture in order to facilitate a more conscious consumer behaviour in our field of work – where we are able to initiate change. Be kind. is our mindset and we would like to use our furniture to carry this message into the world and hereby make a small contribution to making the way we use furniture more sustainable – starting with our little ones who will be affected most by the decisions on climate and society made by all of us today.
Sustainability is our business’s key principle. It is the guideline of all our decisions. bekind. is therefore much more than just the name of our brand – it represents our mindset.
Designed by dads. Fair production – made to last.
bekind. combines timeless design, renewable materials and German craftsmanship. Local FSC-labelled solid wood and linoleum are transformed in Cologne into stable, functional pieces of furniture.
Our serial production is a mix of traditional manual work combined with modern, high precision machine production. Doing so enables us to sell our furniture at a reasonable price without sacrificing quality or exploiting our employees, our suppliers or nature.
While looking for furniture for our own children, the two of us, Lars (father of two, carpenter) and Philip (father of two, organizer) noted with some dismay that furniture for children is often following a throw-away mindset.
We found poor design, so that we didn’t feel like putting it in our homes. We found poor-quality materials, so that it was obvious that these pieces of furniture would not last long, even if one wanted to use them for a long time. And we found furniture that wasn’t functional and versatile and only to be used in a very limited age range.
We could not find anything that fulfilled the three main quality criteria
design
material
functionality
good enough in order to not only make a long-term usage possible but also probable and, by that, ensure a sustainable use of resources.
bekind. furniture is ingeniously designed, versatile and built to last. It suits children’s rooms and can change its purpose as they grow up and might eventually leave the playroom to be used elsewhere in your home. It lasts a lifetime or even generation-spanning without any waste of valuable resources.
Versatile – and therefore built to last.
Our concept of sustainable furniture is focusing on achieving a long-term usage – ideally over several generations in order to ideally use the required natural resources. The furniture’s design (timeless), material (high quality and long-lasting) and functionality (versatile) have therefore been created to last forever.
For bekind. to be more than just another brand and enabling us to really make a change to the trends on the market we need many people joining us in the movement of initiating change. We need you to transform stools into dollhouses and toy garages, desks into benches and drawing corners into coffee tables no matter if you are young or old, big or small.
The more ideas our users have the more desires can be met by bekind. – it does not matter whether it is in children’s rooms, kindergartens, living rooms, waiting rooms or restaurants. But there will always be a conscious mindset.
Short distribution channels for fair prices
We would like to make our fair furniture available to as many people as possible and we need many allies to reach our goal of fair prices. We are therefore selling our products directly through our own online-shop and send them off straight from our workshop in Cologne. This saves rent on shops, retailer margins or provisions for distribution and enables us to keep the prices as low as possible.
