Jérome de Alzua and Vanessa Barrois
Profile
After several award-winning projects, including EUROPAN5 in Rovaniemi in 1999, Finland, or EUROPANdom in St. Peter, Reunion island, in 2001, the tandem of Jerome de Alzua and Vanessa Barrois creates in 2002 the agency de Alzua+.
Laureate in 2004 of the price “Nouveaux Albums de la Jeune Architecture”, the agency is now based in Lille, Nantes and Paris. Its business is divided between public and functional facilities, collective housing and mixed projects.
Among the main achievements feature the conservation center of North Public County archives in Lille, the first positive energy building, in collaboration with ZigZag Architecture; the 60 children nursery and student housing program in Paris and recently the mutable Parking Silo at the Plaine Images in Roubaix.
The agency has also participated in major competitions, such as réinventer.paris on the site of the Massena station (Paris, 13th); mixed project in Lyon Confluence; the Louvre-Lens museum; the Dunkirk and Marseille Regional Contemporary Art Funds; and overseas, the Fargo urban project in the United States.
Currently, the agency managed several projects among which a 600 places carpark next to the railway station of Nantes; housing in southern Bretagne; functional accommodations and facilities (school, hotel, offices, multimedia library, sports gym ...) in the North of France. Meanwhile, Jerome de Alzua regularly gives lectures and participates in discussion groups on the contemporary city. He also teaches architectural project at the LOCI University in Tournai, Belgium.
The philosophy
The architecture agency is a LLC structured around two associated architects: Jerome de Alzua and Vanessa Barrois. They are surrounded by a team including a branch manager, an administrative and financial manager, a development manager, a graphic designer, an economist and 13 urban architects graduated from different European schools. The agency includes an urban planning and a site management center integrating project managers having a proper experience of complex and large issues. Each project is followed from the design to the completion by an architect: the project manager. For study missions and contests, the agency also appeal to experienced external speakers such as art workers, graphic designers, landscape architects, designers, urban planners...
The diversity of projects and a committed and structured method of production demonstrate de Alzua+ ability to adapt to each situation and to the issues of each project. The agency works for public and private clients with the same commitment to quality and the same adequacy of proposals in order to answer the complex issues of the contemporary world.
de Alzua+ see the work of architecture as a particularly exciting practice by the many handled societal issues, and by the major role that you have in the building of a city, either as an urban planner or an architect.
