About GAN
MORE ABOUT GAN
GAN is now GANDIA BLASCO’s indoor brand but it was really the starting point…
José A. Gandía-Blasco, the company’s chairman, reinvented the family firm at the end of the eighties after four decades in business.
He is the nexus, the thread that connects past, present and future. He is a free, restless spirit. He opened the door to innovation and design.
Philosophy
In 2004, Jose decided to start working with Mapi Millet. They are old friends with very similar tastes and sensitivities and together with the business acumen of Sergio Pastor and the enthusiasm of the entire team, they started to re-shape the part of the company specialised in interiors. They focus not only on the rugs but also on the living space they generate and on the volumes and accessories that the designs can produce. So GAN, as we know it today, was born, a brand with an individual, strong entity based on handmade products which are also essentially close to GANDIA BLASCO and an unfailing curiosity to seek out new roads and a love of design.
History
Contemporary design was a risky challenge at the time.
True to the firm’s origins, it created home textile ranges, including the rug world… the original GAN!
The search was on for a new, personal language through great design and triumph. The GANDIA BLASCO textile collections were an unprecedented success.
José A. Gandía-Blasco continued to search and experiment and at the end of the nineties GANDIA BLASCO made its surprise debut in the outdoor furniture world with Na Xemena, a small collection that stunned everyone. The outdoor world had changed forever and so had company’s direction.
Then came the outdoor collections and with them success. But GANDIA BLASCO has never forgotten its origins and the rugs have always been part of its catalogue.
The GANDIA BLASCO House
The GANDIA BLASCO house is conceived as a real and a metaphorical
place. It is a project that goes beyond furniture, which invites a reflection on ways of living and the role of design in the configuration of the world we live in and relationships between persons and objects. The house takes into account the reciprocity between the private area and society, and the need to confront arguments of weight, identity, co-existence, culture, learning, knowledge and business. Of course, this house is not for sale. It’s an invitation to revisit the subject from top to bottom and recommends solutions that make life easier and a fulfilling, beautiful experience. There’s always time to pare things down.
GAN handmade
GAN is craftsmanship and design.
We believe that handmade products are the greatest luxury and that the best way for designers to express their creativity is through the know-how of expert craftsmen.
GAN combines the genius of designers with the skills of craftsmen to produce unique products which will be treasured for years and make our lives more pleasant, warmer and happier.
The world’s crafts are as varied as its countries and people who populate the planet. There’s nothing quite as amazing as discovering these crafts, understanding them in their context and adapting them for other uses and lives.
GAN strives to make this a beneficial adventure for all. Artisans develop their abilities and designers find new ways of expressing themselves.
Social mission
Our ongoing work in India helps to develop and progress the local economy and the communities where we collaborate. GAN is an active participant in child protection programmes and sponsors a women’s development project in a rural setting.
Manufacturing Techniques
Craftsmanship is the essence of GAN.
The value of handmade objects created steadily, piece by piece, is what makes us different and is our hallmark. Part of our team works full-time to optimise existing techniques and to bring back those which had been forgotten. And invent new ones!
The aim is clear: to provide our designers with the perfect instrument for expressing their creativity...
Materiales
At GAN we love taking care of our customers, using only natural fibres: cotton, linen, jute, silk and wool. We believe these are the best for transmitting the warmth and touch of the hands that work them.
