HAIGHArchitects was established in New York, by English born Architect, Designer and Educator Paul Haigh.
The studio has completed award winning architecture and design projects for a wide variety of cultural and commercial clients in the United States, Italy, United Kingdom, France, Japan and Australia.
Architecture honors and awards include selection in the '40 Under 40' review of American Architects and as one of the Architectural League of New York 'Emerging Voices'. Architectural project awards include recognition in the American Institute of Architects National Honor Awards, American Institute of Architects State Honor Awards, Architectural Record Houses and the Annual Interiors Awards. Technical awards include a Lumen Award for lighting design and a United States Institute of Theatre Technology Merit Award. The studio received a Royal Institute of British Architects Award for the Blackpool Wind Shelters International Design Competition.
Acclaimed projects include the Knoll Design Center in New York, VitraUSA assembly facility, Carolines on Broadway Theatre, Corning Museum of Glass Contemporary Sculpture Galleries, John Kaldor's New York ART APARTment, and the Brooks Brothers and SteubenGlass flagship stores in New York.
Drawings and projects have been exhibited at both group and one man shows including the SoHo Guggenheim Museum and Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York, the Dentsu Gallery in Tokyo, the Royal College of Art in London, the Triennale di Milano and a solo exhibition at Parsons : The New School of Design : HAIGH : Interior/Object/Exterior. The GlassLab project for the Corning Museum of Glass was a feature installation at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 2014.
International competitions include the National Parks Service : Heritage Center and Museum, Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum : Doghouse Installation, National Parks Service : Flight93 National Memorial, Van Alen Institute : tkts2k Times Square, the BBC Listening Project, the Royal Institute of British Architects Sessay Community Hub International Design Competition and the Lower Manhattan Development Council World Trade Center Site Memorial Competition.
Product Design awards include multiple ID Review Awards and IBD Awards in addition to consecutive Progressive Architecture International Furniture Competition Awards. Projects have received international awards in Canada, Japan and the United Kingdom including the Virtu Design Award, and multiple IFDA Competition Awards. Objects and drawings are in the permanent collections of the Vitra Design Museum, Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and the Corning Museum of Glass.
HAIGHArchitects studio projects have reached a broad audience through publication in the international architecture and design press. Recent publications have included essays, projects, and reviews in Scoprire il Design : Adventures with Objects exhibition at the Pinacoteca Agnelli in Turin, INA 10 : International New Architecture featuring the Corning Museum of Glass : Contemporary Sculpture Galleries, New Glass Review 35 : 2014 Jurors Review and Glass is Tomorrow : Pro Materia 2015.
Biography
Paul Haigh
Paul Haigh graduated in the UK from Leeds Polytechnic and the Royal College of Art. Following work at architecture and design studios in London and Milan, he immigrated to the United States in 1978 to design exclusively for Knoll International. He established HAIGHSpace, his first design studio in 1980, followed by HAIGHArchitects in1985. He has served as a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Architectural League of New York. Mr. Haigh is a former adjunct professor at Parsons : The New School of Design and currently teaches an annual design workshop at Domaine de Boisbuchet, co-sponsored by the Corning Museum of Glass and the Vitra Design Museum/Centre George Pompidou.
Barbara H. Haigh
Barbara H. Haigh studied architectural, interior and industrial design at the Pratt Institute in New York. During seven years with Knoll International, she worked on the development of architecture and design projects with Robert Venturi, Charles Gwathmey, Richard Meier and Massimo Vignelli. As the Managing Partner at HAIGHArchitects she is the primary liaison for all aspects of the HAIGHArchitects product design, interior design development, sustainability research, administrative and professional development. Professional affiliations include memberships in the Industrial Designers Society of America and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
