Joyce Wang
Profile
Specializing in luxury hospitality and residential design, Joyce Wang’s eponymous studio has earned international acclaim and an impressive global portfolio in just a few short years.
Wang’s architectural approach and cinematic inspirations give her award-winning projects a sense of drama that captivate and engage audiences. Some of her notable commissions include Mott 32, the cabana rooms at the legendary Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok and on-going projects in Vancouver and London.
“We’ve had the good fortune to work on projects that have a heritage value, whether it be the brand or the site,” explains Joyce. “This has allowed us to create environments that reinvent traditions and craft narratives that beg the audience to question and interpret the surroundings.”
Having started out with a double-major in Architecture and Materials Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which greatly influenced her architectural style and the selection of innovative materials, Wang’s career took a change of direction after attending the Royal College of Art in London. Her collaborations with fashion designers, jewelry artisans and filmmakers shaped her approach to interior design. Her work is imbued with a deft expression of materiality evident in the intricate bespoke details of the furniture and fittings she designs for her spaces.
A symbol of Asia’s growing prominence in art and design, Wang has been a sought-after speaker at industry events like Maison & Objet Fair and World Interior Festival in Singapore and the Business of Design Week (BODW) in Hong Kong. In addition to her design practise, Wang is developing her own custom furniture and lighting collection.
