MORE ABOUT KENT GRATION
Wambamboo by Kent Gration is sustainable furniture design for the future.
Bamboo has been incorporated into modern seating, lighting and lounging pieces to create stylish and functional furniture using exotic cross-laminated boards, veneers and bamboo pole. The range is far removed from bamboo caneware of the 1970s and 80s.
Kent Gration graduated from the University of Ballarat with a BA in Visual Arts (Graphic Design) in 1997. After nearly a decade as a graphic designer with leading fi rms in Melbourne and Brisbane, Kent made the leap to furniture and product design in 2004 with the establishment of his company Integration Studio. Integration Studio is a multi-disciplinary design company, working in the areas of graphic, product and furniture design. The company was established to address social and environmental issues through design. Kent’s inspiration comes from investigating new materials and technologies as a foundation for his work, whilst also appreciating shape and form, and how they may be integrated into objects for everyday use. Kent’s ability to explore modern production methods, hand crafted techniques and environmentally friendly materials, enables him to create work which is engaging and always evolving. In 2005 Kent completed a Master of Design (Product Design) with studies in furniture design at Queensland College of Art, Griffi th University. He achieved a University Award for Academic Excellence in the Masters program. During his Master of Design, he was part of a QCA – Griffi th University furniture exhibition titled “Loop” at 100% Design Tokyo 2005. Students were asked to produced pieces based on the theme of eco street furniture, using found objects to give them a second life as a piece of public seating. The piece Abacus was produced to address the principles of proxemics and social interaction.
