lamatilde is a design studio based in Turin, specializing in interior design projects.
The concept that makes lamatilde’s work stand out is the vision of space as an instrument for storytelling. The studio sees visual language and architecture as two sides of a single medium, intertwined to design immersive experiences for people, in both a physical and narrative dimension. Every project is a story to tell, merging architecture, product design, graphics and communication in a unique experience that stems from a deep analysis of present and future lifestyles and the current culture of space.
The studio was officially founded in 2017 by Michele Cafarelli, Luca Macrì, Sandro Rizzo, Marco Ruffino and Silvio Tidu, after the partners had collaborated for many years on various projects at different companies. The five founders bring with them extensive experience with large-scale projects in a plurality of fields, which led them to develop specific skillsets. Thus lamatilde’s interdisciplinary team ranges from architecture to interiors, and from product design to graphic design, allowing the studio to tackle every facet of a project: from concept to construction, and from furniture to branding to communication.
Over the years, the studio has specialized in interiors for the world of hospitality. lamatilde has worked on projects varying in scale and destination, especially focusing on restaurants – including Chef Antonino Cannavacciuolo’s Villa Crespi and LAQUA Countryside, Turin’s little gem of fine pastry Catarina, the expansive 2,400-square-meter EDIT Torino, and the minimalist and refined interiors for Japanese restaurant chain Japs! – and on hotels, such as the LAQUA Countryside resort in Ticciano.
Furthermore, lamatilde creates home spaces and temporary installations, notably for projects in the fields of art and culture, in collaboration with important institutions: Expo 2015, Turin’s Egyptian Museum, the independent design festival Operae, and Turin’s Polytechnic University.
The studio takes part in and contributes to the ongoing debates about the most interesting and current topics in architecture and design, collaborating with the leading schools in Italy, including Turin’s Polytechnic University, NABA, IED and IAAD.
Over the years, the studio has earned numerous awards, including the prestigious German Design Award, the BigSEE Interior Design Award, the Archilovers Best Project and In/Architettura Award.
