LAYAN’s design philosophy embeds ‘the person’ as an intrinsic medium for understanding a project’s spatial experience and its spirit of place. Sympathetic to the human form, scale and proportion, every project is gently crafted with an innate tenderness and intimacy.
Our projects enhance the presence and experience of the surrounding natures without destroying its integrity in the process. Creating a natural environment in our work is essential to the design outcome.
LAYAN applies a holistic methodology that spans across exterior architectural and interior spaces. This continuity of design ethic ensures consistent application of the design idea and constructs a harmonious interface between the built and natural environments.
LAYAN strives to be at the forefront of hospitality design with an approach that is grounded in history and tradition. Building on the achievements of modern architecture in the twenty-first century, we are connecting historic narratives with modern forms.
We care about the detail. Understanding the importance of detail and its technical realization enhances the bespoke quality of the project. The peripheral aspects of detail are just as important as the larger-scale architectural strategy.
The integration of locally available craftsmanship unifies the building with its context. By creating a connection to traditional values, we preserve historic knowledge and its artistic practices.
LAYAN has maintained strong professional relationships with its design consultants across two decades of practice. We collaborate with a core project design team to ensure reliable delivery of bespoke built environments.
The team at LAYAN are international in their outlook, local in their attitudes, and devoted to design excellence. We are a diverse collective of creative minds from distinct cultural backgrounds and encompassing a multitude of projects and experience.

LAYAN was established by Johannes Hart in Melbourne: Australia, 2002.
