MORE ABOUT LYNGBY PORCELæN
Porcelænsfabrikken Danmark – Lyngby Porcelæn (1936-1969) has left a distinctive mark on the history of Danish porcelain – both artistic and in relation to production.
When production was at its highest, the factory was responsible for a third of the total Danish porcelain production. And it was driving forces that established Porcelænsfabrikken Danmark in a former sugar refinery in Lyngby in 1936. Behind the establishment was the enterprising wholesale firm, Holst & Knudsen, which had acquired the porcelain decorating company Kjøbenhavns Porcellains Maleri in 1924 and subsequently founded their own production of porcelain service sets, vases and other functional designs of excellent craftsmanship under the name Porcelænsfabrikken Danmark – Lyngby Porcelæn. The factory was equipped with the latest technology, bringing Lyngby Porcelæn to the forefront industrially and laying the foundation for the design heritage that has been relaunched with such success today.
In 2011, Karakter Copenhagen acquired the rights from the previous owner Jørgen Caroc Holst, the grandson of the founder, and in 2012, Porcelænsfabrikken Danmark – Lyngby Porcelæn was reborn. With the deepest respect for the design heritage, and in collaboration with Jørgen Caroc Holst, it lives on with the re-release of porcelain classics and contemporary design that unite functionality with beauty. In collaboration with recognised designers and new artistic talents, Porcelænsfabrikken Danmark – Lyngby Porcelæn is adding new chapters to the living history of one of Denmark’s most innovative porcelain companies. Today, all porcelain from Porcelænsfabrikken Danmark – Lyngby Porcelæn is produced in Germany and Portugal with the exception of the Rhombe Christmas baubles, which are produced in Asia.
