MAD founders Juan Matiz, AIA LEED AP and Sara Matiz, LEED AP created this Manhattan-based firm in 2002 which has developed into a diverse “360-degree architecture and design studio.”
MAD operates with the philosophy that design is an integrated and cross-disciplined process. The studio is composed of architects along with interior and graphic designers from diverse backgrounds that strategically collaborate on the various projects.
Due to our versatility, MAD’s team has a portfolio that has served a wide variety of clients. These range across regional, national, and international typologies, including residences, corporate offices, retail and exhibition establishments. Organizations such as New York University, Pratt Institute, The Santa Fe Opera, The Boy and Girls Club, New York Presbyterian Hospital and innovative startups like Etsy, Dailymotion and OK Cupid are some of MAD clients.
Matiz Architecture & Design's practice stems from the belief that the built environment is a living breathing entity with the ability to express emotion and intimately engage with its surroundings. In leveraging spaces’ animated potential, MAD approaches every architectural project through a visceral lens and with an emotional depth upon which our clients have come to rely.
This practice operates in a range of scales and typologies, from single-family residences and stand-alone retail stores to large-scale university facilities and landmark renovation projects. Selected clients include New York University, Pratt Institute, The Santa Fe Opera, The Boys and Girls Club and several innovative startups and co-working spaces such as Etsy, Ok Cupid and Urban Future Lab.
MAD’s branding practice hinges on the belief that a strong brand identity is the fundamental cornerstone of any organization or company. Strong brand identities are thoughtful, uniquely-crafted concepts bearing dynamic, emotionally-charged personalities. In leveraging a brand’s distinctiveness, MAD approaches every branding project through a visceral lens and with an emotional depth upon which our clients have come to rely.
