MORE ABOUT MAYA ROMANOFF CORP.
The Maya Romanoff Corporation is a Chicago based manufacturer and leader of the most advanced wallcoverings and interior furnishings in the world. Led by the vision and creativity of Maya and Joyce Romanoff, our corporation has transformed modern day design since 1969 by combining ancient artistic techniques with up-to-date industrial production, and a keen approach for environmental concerns.
Maya Romanoff was among the first to experiment with unprecedented techniques and unimaginable materials, pioneering new surface materials for the design industry. Starting with his fascination with the tie-dye technique that inspired the hand-made, best seller Weathered Walls™ –we tout one of the largest selections of innovative wallcoverings for commercial and residential design. Our collection made of more than 21 materials includes Precious Metals™, created with genuine metal leaf and hand applied onto paper with chopsticks; Ajiro™, a decorative inlaid work of wood made from the renewable plantation grown Pawlonia tree; Maya Romanoff 54"™ Type II Vinyls, affordable wallcoverings produced by a complex process to yield rich, light-shifting surfaces; Mother of Pearl™, genuine shell hand inlaid into flexible, easy to install tiles; and True Metals™, genuine copper, brass and aluminum tiles handmade to preserve their lush patinas over time.
In 2002, we took the world of design by storm with the launch of Beadazzled™ Flexible Glass Bead Wallcovering – a flexible beaded wall and surface material crafted from glass beads and created with our proprietary process. This unique material earned a prestigious permanent place in the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and has led to five new and exciting versions introduced in Spring 2005.
In addition to our standard Beadazzled tile- and roll-goods, which may be ordered in custom colors and lengths, our Beadazzled™ Murals make possible spectacular art pieces and design highlights based on your digital imagery. These one of a kind "Beadazzled" canvases have been installed everywhere from the Neiman Marcus flagship store in Dallas to the Geisha Restaurant in New York. From floor-to-ceiling wall murals to framed works of art, Maya Romanoff has broken new ground once again to provide infinite possibilities for customizing the design of any interior.
The David Rockwell for Maya Romanoff Collection is the result of a collaboration between architect David Rockwell and Maya Romanoff. The collection of sophisticated, highly tactile coverings represents a first for two prolific designers – Rockwell’s foray into surface material design and our first-ever collaborative design effort with another designer. The collection is comprised of unique coverings and includes Stitched, embellishing on our original bestselling Weathered Walls, with more innovative products to come.
Today, we continue to be a leading force in the design community, carrying out Maya’s founding philosophy and passion of using uncommon materials to create uncommon art. We have gained a loyal following of high profile designers and companies such as Halston, The Limited, Boucheron, Parish Hadley, David Rockwell, Jessica LaGrange, Peter Marino, and the best hotels around the world. Over the years, Maya Romanoff has earned many awards including NEWH's Icon of Industry Award, The International Furnishings and Design Associations Trailblazer Award, House & Garden’s Best of the Best Award, Metropolitan Home’s Top 100 Designs, NEOCON’s Best in Show, Hospitality Design Best in Show, and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair’s Editor’s award.
