MORE ABOUT MJMA
Profile
MJMA is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary design firm focused on projects that advance personal and civic wellness and include a diverse array of programming and scales. Our projects include high-performance sport, campus and academic learning spaces, recreation, libraries, wellness programs, aquatics, cultural spaces, sports fields, trails, gardens, and plazas. The common thread is a design focused to support maximum programmatic and social interaction, emphasizing connection of a wide demographic of user groups, and the tactic of directly linking interior spaces with landscaped areas and parks. We undertake a rigorous analysis of the unique cultural and physical context for each project, this is informed by extensive public participation. The rich programmatic combinations that drive the design process respond directly to the evolving modern and social conditions of each community. These projects create the benchmarks for future public spaces.
While historically our focus has been in the community and recreation sector, our commitment to design excellence has led to work across numerous building typologies, including cultural facilities, academic buildings, workplace, hospitality, and residential design.
MJMA is the recipient of the prestigious Royal Architectural Institute of Canada's 2016 Architectural Firm Award recognizing outstanding achievement in Architectural Design for a body of work and exemplar service to the profession. Our focus on design excellence in public design, and commitment to urbane place-making, has resulted in more than 100 national and international awards, our foremost priority is achieving client and user satisfaction. This approach has led to the receipt of Governor General’s Medals In Architecture, Canadian Architect Awards of Excellence, Athletic Business Facility of Merit Design Awards, and IAKS/IOC Medals in Architecture by the International Olympic Committee among numerous others.
Our projects span the country and attract clients globally, we bring a mix of national and global expertise to each and every project. MJMA successfully engages in cross-Canada and International collaborations to deliver innovation in community and recreation architecture by way of strong joint venture partnerships. We are a national firm with projects from University of British Columbia to Dalhousie University, Calgary to Prince Edward Island, and most places in between. Our work has evolved to the U.S. market with community recreation projects now underway in Chicago and Washington DC. The work has drawn further international clients from the U.A.E, Australia, and New Zealand. Recently, MJMA have been awarded the design for three major academic and sport projects in Australia and New Zealand, including the new $200M Metro Sports Facility in Christchurch, New Zealand, its premiere community and social catalyst for the city-wide recovery program following the devastation of the 2011 earthquakes.
