MORE ABOUT ONE-AFTR
Profile:
one-aftr was formed with the mission to create a 'collective good experience' in space. We use the vagueness of 'good' as a driving force of our inquiries. We make sense of what surrounds us through measured observation of everyday life and through the viewpoint of other fields. We experiment with ways of working in defining the 'good' through writing, making, curating, and building.
Joon Ma is a designer, educator, and co-founder of one-aftr. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Davidson College and a Master of Architecture from Princeton University, where he was awarded the Suzanne Kolarik Underwood Prize for his thesis. His work has been recognized internationally, most recently winning the Seoul Maru Public Intervention competition, placing 2nd on the Europan 15 Vienna, shortlisted for the Dubai World Expo Korean Pavilion, and exhibiting at the Venice Biennale. His written work has been published in Rumor (Princeton), Paprika!(Yale), and Pool (UCLA).Prior to finding one-aftr, he worked at OMA/AMO Rotterdam. He previously taught at Virginia Tech and Syracuse University and now teaches at Yonsei University.
Ryu Ahn is a designer, educator, and co-founder of one-aftr. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Princeton University and a Master of Architecture from Columbia University. He has won and been selected as a finalist in several international-wide architectural competitions and has recently been awarded by the Korean Institute of Architects (KIA), exhibiting his work at the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism.
